What is this? At Spinutech we’re all about the relationship. We don’t just want to be your service provider; we want to be your partner. We’ll be sharing an inside look at who we are in our new blog series: “Spinside Access.” Each month we’ll bring you a new post chock full of fun and interesting details about the team, as well as useful tips and resources!

"Mix a little foolishness with your serious plans. It is lovely to be silly at the right moment."

- Horace

Perhaps you carried out an elaborate scheme, or maybe you're still nervously awaiting to be the victim of your co-worker's humor. No matter where you stand on the holiday, you can't avoid it– April Fool's Day. Though it's not an official job requirement, we pride ourselves in having a fun and humorous group of team members. As I have learned over the years, the Spinutech team knows how to have a good time. Some of my favorites are the Sasquatch Christmas Scare and the (Knuckle)Head in Fridge prank. Let's just say I'm sure some are happy there was no such thing as social media during their younger years. Perhaps if they did they might not even have this job today because of their shenanigans... But here we are! Many years of pranks have passed and we live to tell them today. Here are a few of our favorites:

Q. What was the prank?
A. It was my last day of interning with Spinutech and I realized that I had yet to play a prank on anyone. Several people were gone a vacation, so I had many desks to choose from. I chose Dave as my victim. I wasn't sure what to use to cover the desk, so I used several different materials. The first layer was multicolored sticky notes. After the notes, I layered it in aluminum foil to give it a nice metallic finish. Lastly I wrapped the entire desk in saran wrap.

Q. Who was your victim and why did they deserve it?
A. No reason specifically, he was just gone on vacation and I was jealous.

Q. Were there any complications?
A. Aluminum foil is a tough material to work with, it ripped pretty easily as I wrapped it around the desk. Maybe that was because it was generic brand :)

Q. What was their reaction?
A. No idea! I had gone back to school after my internship, so I wasn't there when he returned. But, he still talks to me today so it's good to know he doesn't hold any grudges.

The below video shows step 1 of the process. And yes, shoutout to Luke for his contribution.

Q. What was the prank?
A.
My best friend from college and I called her mom (who was prone to worrying) and said "Hello, this is (so and so) from Planned Parenthood and I have an urgent message for Jennifer" (my friend). She said that she wasn't home, but could I please tell her what was going on? I told her "I'm sorry, ma'am but patient privacy won't allow me to release those details. Please have her return my call as soon as possible, it's very important that she call me right away."

Q. Who was your victim and why did they deserve it?
A.
My friend's mom, Lois.

Q. Were there any complications?
A.
If I remember, it was really hard not to laugh. But God willing, I made it through to the end.

Q. What was their reaction?
A.
After I hung up the phone from the first call, Jen immediately got a call from her mom in a full-on panic. We lost it at that point. In hindsight, that's a pretty mean thing to do to a mom!

Q. Any photos/videos?
A. I wish! We didn't have smartphones

Q. What was the prank?
A.
My roommate and I would call people in the dorm as quickly as we could in a row and tell them they won a free pizza from Dominoes. Then we'd go wait down in the lobby with the group and pretend to be another one of the winners. It was funny to watch how long they'd wait or how upset they'd get when the pizza didn't show up.

Q. Who was your victim and why did they deserve it?
A.
Fellow Dancer Hall dorm tenants at UNI.

Q. Were there any complications?
A.
One of the people we called at random was actually someone we knew. #Busted

Q. What was their reaction?
A.
Some people waited for a long time, and when a pizza guy would walk in everyone would swarm. Some even got upset, which is understandable– who doesn't want free pizza? If they didn't react at all while waiting, sometimes we'd even instigate an uproar.

Q. Any photos/videos?
A.
No, but here's another picture from when we were "volunteer" bellhops on the dorm elevator! They referred to us as the Vator Monkeys.

Q. What was the prank?
A.
It was common practice for us to sabotage someone's desk if they went on vacation. This time we drew some inspiration form The Office and created a Megadesk, a desk on top of another desk.

Q. Who was your victim and why did they deserve it?
A.
I believe it was Greg Burris, but Kevin Kuecker is shown testing it out. Because if you go on vacation, the people you leave behind get jealous and mess with your desk!

Q. Were there any complications?
A.
Just a lengthy process of undoing the desk.

Q. What was their reaction?
A.
Many chuckles.

Q. What was the prank?
A. I dressed a boxing dummy up in a hoodie and hid him in my mom's closet while she was on vacation.

Q. Who was your victim and why did they deserve it?
A.
My mother, just because.

Q. Were there any complications?
A. No, but almost lost a good man that day.

Q. What was their reaction?
A.
She almost murdered the plastic dummy when she found it!
